Ruby sells the same unit we do — minutes — at about seven times the price.
Ruby is a long-established live receptionist service. Every call is answered by a person, and they are explicit about it: “100% live, personalized communication.” Because they bill in minutes, this is one of the few comparisons in this category that is genuinely like-for-like on the unit.
A like-for-like month
200 minutes of answered calls in a month — the volume Ruby markets as its most popular plan.

When Ruby is the better buy
When the voice is the point. Ruby's pitch is that a real person represents your business warmly, and for firms whose callers are upset, elderly, in crisis, or spending a great deal of money, that is worth paying for and we would not pretend otherwise. A human also handles the genuinely unexpected — the call that does not fit any script — which is exactly where an AI takes a message instead.
The short version
The seven-times gap buys you a human being. That is a real thing to buy. It is only a bad deal if most of your calls are someone asking whether you are open on Saturday.
